Adolescence is the step from childhood to adulthood, when children define who they are. Teenagers criticize their environment, their friends, their body, and they rebel against authority, be it their parents or any other authority figure.
This new psychological state is accompanied by a series of physical transformations, especially the development of the sex organs, which start to produce hormones and are ready for reproduction. Within this transition period there is a process called puberty, the moment when our physical and sexual traits mature.
One of its main expressions is an increase in body size. Both boys and girls get several centimeters taller, and their skeleton, muscle mass and fatty tissue are redefined.
On this same note, the physical differences between girls and boys become clearer. Girls’ hips widen and they store more fat; meanwhile, boys’ backs get bigger and their voice deepens.
Adulthood
This stage of the human life cycle takes place between the ages of 18 and 65. Depending on each person’s life style, it is a period of stability for the body during which our physical abilities and traits fully develop, as well as our cerebral capacities.
This overall sense of wellbeing is the period of our lives during which we make transcendental work, sentimental and family decisions. Couples can even spawn new life cycles if they choose to become parents.
However, during this state the body also begins a gradual process of cell degeneration, in other words, old age begins, even though we might not notice it at first. It only becomes more evident between the ages of 40 and 65, when, for example, we start to go bald or some grey hair starts to appear; not to mention wrinkles and impaired sight and hearing.
