Immune system

– When pathogen agents manage to get past the body’s defensive barriers, the immune system steps in and acts as a protective shield.
– The innate immune response is the body’s first line of defense (we have it since the beginning of fetal development) and the adaptive response is developed throughout our lifetime.

Lymphatic system

– This system is made up of organs, vessels, lymph nodes and lymphatic tissue, all of which participate in the body’s immune responses.
Lymph nodes are found throughout our entire body, but they are most abundant in the axillas (armpits), groin, neck and pelvis.

Immune responses

– Allergens are substances that cause allergic responses.
– Inflammation is a reaction that is produced when tissue is damaged.
– Vaccinations are debilitated doses of antigens that are injected into the body in order to build-up antibodies against infections.
