Region of los Lagos

– The northern border of the region of los Lagos is the region of los Rios; the southern border is the region of Aisen del General Carlos Ibañez del Campo; to the east it runs into Argentina and to the west with the Pacific ocean.
– Its total population is 716,739 inhabitants (2002 Census), which equals 4.7% of the national population.
– The regional capital is Puerto Montt and administratively it is split into four provinces.

Physical geography, hydrography and climate

– The intermediate depression gradually moves on towards the west, meeting the Coastal mountain range.
– There are 56 rivers on the Isla Grande de Chiloe (Great Island of Chiloe), with stand outs including: Pudeto, Chepu, Medina and Cucao.
– The rainy warm template climate has high precipitations all year round, registering a third of the annual total in summer.

Biogeography, economy and tourist attractions

-Due to the abundance of precipitations and to greater moisture, plant species that have a constant need for water develop in this zone.
– The main economical activities of this region are agropecuary and forestry activities.
– Some of the tourist attractions of the Province of Llanquihue are Angelmo, Puerto Varas, Llanquihue lake, the Musical Weeks of Frutillar and the Oktoberfest.
