It is bounded by the Democratic Republic of Congo to the north, by Tanzania to the northeast, by Malawi to the east, by Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia to the south and by Angola to the west. Its territory is dominated by highlands, plateaus and mountains. The Zambezi River, on the border with Zimbabwe, is the most important river and features the famous Victoria Falls. There are a number of lakes, such Bangweulu, Mweru and Kariba.
Zambia’s economy depends chiefly on copper mining, and the country is one of the world’s main exporters. Other important sectors are tourism and agriculture (tobacco and peanuts).
