It is located in the eastern half of the Northern Hemisphere, from the Arctic Ocean in the north, including the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Bosphorus Strait, the Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelle’s Strait and the Caucasus Mountains in the south. To the west it stretches as far as the Atlantic Ocean and to the east it is bounded by Asia, from which it is separated by the Ural Mountains, the Ural River and the Caspian Sea.
The Ural Mountains divide the Russian Federation, leaving the majority of it in Asia.
In political terms, though, it is considered a European country, as is Turkey (partly in Europe and partly in Asia).
