Earth is our home and the home of life as we know it. It is also the stage for narrow and complex relationships between every living being and their respective environments.

Knowledge of these natural links has always been of scientific interest, and for this reason, the Earth sciences began to take shape, among them: biology, botany, zoology, geology, geography, meteorology and ecology. This way, each one of them began to answer the diverse questions about life on our planet, providing valuable knowledge. However, scientists have also been showing us serious problems that are making our planet sick, among them: air pollution, the effects of global warming or the loss of biodiversity.

Presently, we see that the concern to find solutions for these problems has acquired vital importance for Man and science is not the only one that worries about it, everyday people who are interested in knowing whats happening and why and especially what they can do to protect our environment are interested too.

In this context, the Science and World in Danger Encyclopedia wants to be a contribution for our school children, delivering scientific contents and concepts on the subject of ecology and up-to-date information about Chile and the worlds environmental outlook. Apart from providing some guidelines for the rational use of natural resources, sustainable development and care for the environment.

This collections 20 chapters are organized into four large categories: Physical World (climates and energy), Biodiversity (ecosystems and biomes), Biological Conservation (climate changes; animals, plants and ecosystems with conservation problems, pollution, among others) and Natural Catastrophes (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes and typhoons).
